About me
Hi, I'm Lalain
Most evenings I'm on Zoom with a small group of teenagers, or with one student working through something together. I also run workshops for schools, youth groups and teams, and I train parents and teachers in the things I do to get a class talking. All of it happens live.

I've taught teenagers since 2021. These days my classroom is a Zoom window, and my students log in from all over the world.
I started out in 2021 in an ordinary school classroom. At the same time I began running workshops for young people, and that's where I learned facilitation: getting a group to talk to each other, and knowing when to step back so they can work something out for themselves.
Since then I've run workshops on leadership, peacebuilding, climate and starting a business with Dialogue Academy, Youth Impact, Lincoln Corner and others. At Lincoln Corner, with the US Embassy, I facilitated the Juniorpreneurship Winter Camp, where young people turned an idea into a product and pitched it. With Youth Impact I went to a peace leadership camp in the Himalayas, then came back and led a peacebuilding seminar of my own. As a Master Trainer with the National Youth Volunteer Network, I train adults as well.
In 2024 the US Consulate nominated me for the Youth Forum Leadership Summit in Colombo, with about 120 young leaders from six South Asian countries. I also co-hosted the first ADPList meetup in my city. Since 2024 most of my teaching has been live online, in full classes and one-to-one, usually in the evening for me and first thing in the morning for my students.
I build things with AI tools most weeks, so when a student's app stops working halfway through a class, I can explain the lesson and help them fix it. My classes are built around that mix. I teach live because the best part of a lesson is usually the part I didn't plan, when a student asks something I wasn't expecting or disagrees with me and turns out to be right.

How I teach
Four things you'll notice in my classes
- 01
Six students at most
I keep groups small so I hear from every student in every class. I know everyone's name by the end of the first session.
- 02
They make something every class
Each class ends with something your teen has made, like a working screen of an app, a short pitch or a plan for next week.
- 03
Open about AI
We use AI tools a lot in class. We also stop and check when it gets something wrong, and we talk about when using it would count as cheating.
- 04
High expectations
My classes are friendly and there's usually some laughing. I still expect students to finish what they start and to explain their ideas out loud.
